HANOI: Vietnam's tourism industry is solving four problems so that it can attract 16 to 17 million foreign visitors and 78 million domestic ones, and make revenues of 27.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2018, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said on Monday.

To lure more foreign tourists, Vietnam currently focuses on solving the four problems relating to visa grant, promotion and advertisement, aviation connectivity and ground service, and destination management.

If Vietnam can host 16-17 million international arrivals this year, it can catch up with Indonesia in terms of growth in foreign visitor numbers, but still lags behind Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Vietnam's tourism industry will strengthen cooperation with local and foreign airlines to launch new routes and increase frequency of existing flights to such destinations as central Da Nang city, central Hue city, southern Kien Giang province, northern Hai Phong city, and northern Quang Ninh province, said the administration.

The industry will also foster coordination with localities nationwide to tap 11 intangible cultural heritages of humanity in Vietnam recognized by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), including Vietnamese court music, space of gong culture, Giong festival and Xoan singing.

Vietnam received 12.9 million foreign visitors in 2017, up 29.1 percent on-year, with the highest growth of 56.4 percent in the number of visitors from South Korea, followed by China (up 48.6 percent) and Russia (32.3 percent).
