BUENOS AIRES, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here Monday that it is in line with the global trend to uphold multilateralism, improve global governance and build a community of shared interests.

Wang made the remarks while attending the first session of the ministerial meetings of the Group of 20 (G20).

The world is facing numerous challenges and the economic globalization is facing headwinds, as unilateralism and protectionism have reared their heads, said Wang.

Noting that we are living in a world where no one can solve all the problems on his own, Wang said that protectionism is not the way out and  win-win cooperation is what the world needs.
   "
We should resolve problems through consultations on the basis of equality and mutual respect and solve disputes through frank dialogues," said Wang.

"We should work together to build a community of shared future for mankind based on multilateralism," said Wang.

The United Nations (UN) is the core of the current multilateral mechanism and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter are the cornerstone of contemporary international relations, said Wang.

He said that the World Trade Organization represents the rule-based multilateral trade system and its core values and basic principles must be respected.

Wang also said that climate change is a common challenge facing human beings and that the Paris Agreement should be actively implemented.

The G20 embodies the progress in global governance and the group  should play a better role in promoting economic globalization, said Wang.

To improve global governance does not entail an overturning of the current system, but reform, so as to accord with the trend of the times and best reflect the intentions and interests of most countries.
